Pat Dam Smyth – Set in Stone
Charlene: “Pat Dam Smyth’s just so interesting… This track
particularly I just thought was really beautiful… It’s quite nice; you can hear
pedal steel and like a full string section going on. In its essence it’s a
beautiful piano track.”
Rigsy: “Delighted to revisit that track.”
Greater Walls – Deep Water
Rigsy: “Lots of drama, lots of unpredictable
instrumentation. Lots of ideas basically. If anything this track is the
straightest thing on the record. Touches of Lorde, Ben Folds in this, or
locally Katharine Philippa or Best Boy Grip. Makes the lapsed pianists like
myself jealous.”
Cloud Castle Lake - Sync
Charlene: “Fantastic live. There’s three of them, and it’s
just a big wall of interesting sound... It’s kind of fresh, it sounds like
nothing else.”
Rigsy: “They’ve always made such big, big sounds.”
Contour – Change Your Ways
Charlene: “What’s interesting about this band, three
different people on three different occasions had talked about how amazing this
band were live.”
¿Que
Pasa? – The Logic of Matthew Dickson
Rigsy: “Just a fun track. Nice use of the bands brass
section throughout that as well. Definitely very little else around at the
moment (similar), let alone in Northern Ireland.”
Mkai - Waiting
Charlene: “There’s four of them in the band. Originally they
started as two brothers but then I think two brothers then joined. Really
fantastic live, I was genuinely taken back.”
Rigsy: “This is just wonderful and we thank Charlene for
bringing it to our attention.”
Soft Bones – Tiny Arms of Tyrannosaur
Rigsy: “Touches of Lemon Jelly here. Really delicate track
built for headphones. I really love this type of thing. Not that easy to get
right but that little loop throughout and the weird vocals, it’s all a little
bit special.”
Charlene - “I really like it, sounds like S. Carey… Yeah
it’s really beautiful”
