Window Seats – Stickle Bricks

Tuesday 1st December 2015

They Say:“'Stickle Bricks' has some weird time signature changes, which probably comes from listening to Radiohead and Pink Floyd growing up - 'Go to sleep' and 'Money' are classic tunes that stick for being hooky despite having weird timings. Stickle Bricks is packed with all sorts of lyrics about how growing up doesn't end when you're an adult, letting go of the past and gratitude for having good friends around. Window Seats lyrics are always written from a personal and emotional perspective. Never really touched on political or grand commentary though that could be interesting at some point!

The video for this is crazy and was lots of fun to make. We're lucky that so many talented people put in so much to pull it off, it's definitely the most ambitious thing we've ever done. Videos can be an excuse to live out a few fantasies and play dress up. The big influence is overtly Quantum Leap though there are also smaller visual nods to Forrest Gump's Vietnam stuff, Apocalypse now, Rocky, Top Gun, The Colour of Money and lots of little references like Dennis Taylor's epic 1985 celebration. Getting to do that on camera was worth the effort of everything else alone.”

We Say: "It’s almost a shame that the jaw dropping video almost overshadows what’s actually, you know, a really good song…But at the same time - that video. It’s good to the point we’re annoyed. How do you go about making something like that, with all its special effects, locations, costumes and explosions…with a budget of, like less than - a million quid? None of it adds up. Still though - we’re a radio show. So - that song! It’s spikey and poppy and fun.”
