Philip Watts d'Alton - Reflections and As The Line Breaks (LIVE IN SESSION FOR ATL)

Wednesday 5th April, 2017

They say: “
Reflections is a very new song. I had so many songs that i had accumulated over the years that either didn’t suit Master & Dog or else i just wanted to keep for myself. By the time I got around to recording them I think i had grown out of them a bit.

I wrote Reflections while trying to record one of those old songs which i was fed up with and just recorded it that afternoon.

It’s about dealing with anxiety. I think it’s something that lots of people suffer from these days, including myself. Most of my songs are about that. It’s just what comes out of me these days and i’m happy to just go with that.

I’m not entirely sure what As The Line Breaks is about. I suppose using whatever means you like to deal with your problems, whether that’s religion or just talking to someone, it’s not something that people should judge.

Just let people be. I think that’s what it’s about. Or maybe I just like the word 'God'.

I’ll often write lyrics and literally have no idea what i’m on about and then try to decipher them after, but sometimes that just leads to utter nonsense. But it can be whatever anyone wants to take from it."

We say:
“The guy is soulful and musicianly. Philip has imprinted on local music with Master & Dog, also with his contributions to Rory Nellis performances and further back, to John Shelly And The Creatures.

His speciality is woozy, cracked Americana, with a nod to Wilco and Mercury Rev. This ATL session reveals a further dimension beyond the current release, Reflections."

Originally from Dublin, songwriter Philip Watts d'Alton is a founding member of Master & Dog. Having been producing music for other artists for the past decade, these are his first solo releases.
