Arborist – 'Dark Stream' and 'Twisted Arrow' (Live)
Thursday 17th November, 2016
They say:“Tom Wall joined us on trumpet for 'Dark Stream'. It’s a vital component of the song so we didn’t want to forgo it. I think it’s the only track on the album without violin so the trumpet kind of takes the limelight instead of it. Here we perform it as a 5-piece which, aside from the piano, was ultimately how it was recorded for the album.
'Twisted Arrow' has been performed in many ways on the BBC over the last 12-18 months but this is the first time we have played it with drums and without violin. Jonny Ashe on guitar masterfully masks the absence of the latter. I still enjoy singing it, long may that continue.”
We say: “It’s a late album of the year contender for us – an incredible collection of songs, bold and beautiful. We hoped the session did the record justice – and with the help of some incredible musicians (including a little brass) all three songs soared. Previous singles ‘Dark Stream’ and ‘Twisted Arrow’ are here – check the iPlayer for the third track – a sublime Leonard Cohen cover.”
‘Dark Stream’ and ‘Twisted Arrow’ are from Arborist’s debut album ‘Home Burial’ which was released on November 11th via CD, digitally and on heavy-weight vinyl. Arborist play the Anchor Bar in Portrush on 20th November, Other Voice in Dingle between the 2nd and 4th of December and the Eglantine Inn in Belfast on Saturday 16th December.
