This week Charlene Hegarty joined Rigsy to talk about some of their favourite new releases...

Little Hours – It’s Still Love

Charlene: “There’s a really nice story behind this track…they’ve just found themselves shortlisted for the Meteor Choice Irish Single of the Year.”

Triona Carville – Long Gone

Charlene: “I seen Triona play in The Dark Horse a few years ago and I think at that stage I realised she had big ambitions…it’s quite nice to watch her grow, she’s gone on to collaborate in Nashville and gig continuously and the sum of all those parts is just this beautiful slightly country, well rounded acoustic track.”

Rigsy: “There’s just something about it, that gives it that bit of an edge.”

Autumns – Je Veux Etre

Rigsy: “So this is the latest from Derry’s Christian Donaghy AKA Autumns…he records, writes and plays all the instruments. This track is from the Blonde EP…they’re an interesting project.”

Charlene: “It reminds me of Male Bonding…”

More Than Conquerors – Bring Me to the Blood Bank

Charlene: “It’s a personal favourite of mine…it’s a great track and also they are headed over to Austin to pull the rug out from underneath the Texans, for the South by South West Festival…with Soak and Go Wolf and The Lost Brothers - that Lineup’s one of the best I’ve seen so far.”

New Blue Death – Teeth

Rigsy: “To mark the release of their second album ‘It’s Never The Right Time’ we’re playing this track… ‘Teeth’. It features a girl called Maggie on vocals and she’s a Northern Irish connection, I have to point that out because the band are currently based in Seoul, lovely stuff….”

Ruairi and the Owls – Thaw

Charlene: “Thaw is the first track on Ruari’s four track ‘Man About a Dog’ EP. I just think it’s a really nice, feel good track…I’m yet to catch Ruari and the Owl’s live but I’m assured it’s one to watch so I’m excited to hear more.”

Aspen Pales – Sleep

Charlene: For me this band just arrived out of nowhere, with a really beautiful, cinematic eight track LP…I just picked this track of the album because I really like the groove in it. I think it’s really nice - real beautiful track.”

Rigsy: “I’m a big fan…really, really nice vibes to this.”

Rebekah Margaret Brown – Solitude

Rigsy: “It’s beautifully produced…the first listen it seems kind of cutesy like a lot of singer-songwriters who are massively popular but I sense a wee bit of an edge and a bit of drama in there too, which puts it over the line. And at 21, huge, huge promise…this is a great first track to play on this show.”
