Come On Live Long - Sum Of Its Parts
Tuesday 18th April, 2017
They say: “Written last summer, Sum of Its Parts evolved from a demo initially recorded by Louise and then re-worked in a group setting over a number of weeks.
The song is about patching together memories collected over a period of years, and how we make sense of the different iterations a person goes through, how we change and stay the same.
We transformed this song into a much bigger sound than was initially present on the demo. This is a process we tend to use with a lot of our songs, taking a finished demo and pulling it apart, adding and reworking in a rehearsal room until we all feel something click. Once it becomes fun to play together and we find ourselves wanting to play it over and over again without making new changes, we know its done.
It tends to be one of the most fun parts of writing new music because we can take it anywhere, really change the sound of something or decide to leave it the same. Its a really open and creative thing where we bounce a lot of stuff off each other.”
We say: “The ‘quiet bit then loud bit’ approach is tricky to pull off well - but this track does it perfectly.
Switching from gentle to intense within the blink of an eye, it also boasts two utterly gorgeous vocals. Given this is like very little else you’ll hear this year, we’re excited for album number two.”
'Sum of Its Parts' is the second single from Come On Live Long's forthcoming second album, 'In The Still'.
