Brand New Friend - American Wives
Thursday 26th May, 2016
They Say: “'American Wives' is the title track of our debut E.P, recorded with Rocky O'Reilly in Start Together Studios. We wrote it incredibly early one morning and totally forgot about it. We found the lyrics on a piece of paper weeks later and thankfully it took shape quite quickly, complete with one of Darren's best bass lines yet. It's about a relationship falling apart, when there's no distance left to run.”
We Say: “Sheer, unbridled enthusiasm and an ear for what makes for a really catchy tune are evident on ‘American Wives’, and it would probably get by on this alone. Even better though - the frenetic, fuzzed-out guitar and harmonies in the vein of The Moldy Peaches help elevate this to something more; a tantalisingly snappy track that crackles and fizzes with kinetic energy.”
Brand New Friend are Lauren and Taylor Johnson, Fionn Crossan and Darren Hill. They play HMV Belfast on 4th June at 3pm and the ‘American Wives’ E.P is out now
