This week, Rigsy and Stu were joined by BBC R1’s Phil Taggart to discuss some of their favourite new releases including;
Axecatcher – Monster Blood
Phil: “There’s something in the water in Northern Ireland where we do heavy and we do it very very ridiculously well, especially this brand of really in your face skull melting hardcore. It kind of reminds me of like the early music from Axis Of, but probably more of… Empty Lungs. This is something I wanna see in a really dirty dingey sweaty little venue.”
Rigsy: “Big droney production as well.”
Craft Work – Different Trains
Stu: “He’s really pushing it out. He’s a man who’s really on his uppers at the minute – he’s producing other people – he’s just bursting with ideas, I like it.”
Rigsy: “I think this is just absolutely outstanding. I’m so kind of enamoured by it… Chris is such a creative human being.”
Sleep Thieves – Sparks (Haüer Remix)
Phil: “Haüer… He kind of takes the remix and brings it a few hours forward in to the deep of night. That deep synth that he puts on it… I can’t get it out of my head, it sounds like something that would be on a late 70’s/early 80’s Queen record.”
Chris Hanna – Up We Get
Phil: “He’s been cultivating this sound and these DJ sets over about the last year that don’t really fit in with… UNKNWN. It’s a little bit harder, little bit more techy… he’s completely switched it around. I can’t figure out which one I like better.”
Vorlis – Throttle
Rigsy: “It’s difficult to give this track justice in a couple of minutes... Really beautifully presented, I love this type of smoky techno.”
Phil: “It kind of reminds me of… Leon Vyenhall, but probably a little bit darker.”
