Craft Work - Different Trains
He Says: “This song samples Steve Reich's ‘Different Trains’; I thought it would be interesting to borrow some vocal 'melodies' from the original as well, which uses tape-playback of speech. This track sat on my hard drive forgotten about for a while, and some of the lyrics ended up being used for a Robocobra Quartet tune, so technically it's a song in which I rip myself off.”
We Say: ”Chris Ryan is just showing off at this point. As if his remarkable jazz-rock combo Robocobra Quartet wasn’t enough of an outlet for his creative lunacy, he’s launched an even more adventurous solo project. Weird samples, quirky production and Chris’ trademark pleading vocal make for one of the most engaging collections of songs we’ve heard this year. Dreadful name, all the same.”
