Thom Yorke of Radiohead for BBC 4's Glastonbury at 40 : From Avalon to JayZ
Radiohead live at The Mandela Hall, Queens University Student's Union June 19, 1997.
What an exceptional moment for Belfast. A band at a creative peak, playing a venue that was intimate and absurdly small. Nine days later and they would be at Glastonbury, wowing the multitudes. So lucky old Belfast then, and for the few hundred people who witnessed the night, it was jaw-droppingly great. The chance to hear the wonders of ‘OK Computer’ a few weeks after that record reached the shops and changed the expectations of alternative music forever. In this ATL archive special, we talk to the fans, the venue's Ents Manager, the blogger, the support act and to Rigsy, obsessive ATL listener and future programme presenter, still enthralled at the memory of it all.
