Happy New Year (Probably a bit late for that by now) and welcome to the weekly update of our ripe roster of the freshest, brand new acts lighting up our playlist. For your consideration, the first three New Band Smell candidates of 2012.

Droids – Astromech and Protocol

Yet another example of the North West resurgence. Droids hammer out riffs like they owe them money. Their track ‘Astromech and Protocol’ has got us all at ATL a little hot under the collar.

Bee Mick See – I’m Not Like You

Electro punk rap that draws us across the (metaphorical) tracks to the wrong side of town. You remember that boy our mothers warned us about? That’s Bee Mick See!

We Are Burkes Lounge – That 70’s Girl

Occasionally bands slip by the wayside on our merciless hunt for great new bands; this seems to be what happened with We Are Burkes Lounge. Formed in 2009, the Derry four piece worked towards the inaugural release of their debut EP ‘Willing to Confess’ which saw daylight in 2010. In 2012 WABL are back with a new collection of songs, tighter, shinier and altogether more promising. By their own admission the Arctic Monkey’s have a strong influence on the band’s sound, most notable in the kitchen sink lyrics and spiky riffs. We here at ATL are very much looking forward to following WABL on their musical journey through 2012.

We are Burkes Lounge launch their latest single in Auntie Annies in Belfast, Thursday 12th December.
