That New Band Smell: Katharine Philippa
Eau du New Band Smell is back. This week we march a procession of the finest brand new Irish bands out of your speakers and into your lugs. Here they are:
************************************
The Kouba’s – Get Over Yourself
Their debut EP contains more tunes than a chemists counter. Caution: Repeated listens may cause indie power pop over dose… You know, in a good way, like eating too much ice cream.
Unquiet Nights – Should Have Said Something
Confident swaggering indie rock from the European wanderlust trio.
Katharine Philippa – Whiter than I
Katharine Philippa is the reason why spending hours trawling around websites, talking to people, sniffing around bins for that ‘hot new sound’ is worthwhile. Her debut EP swirls in the constant of a beautiful but cracked vocal reflecting in love and spirituality. ‘Whiter Than I’ builds and swells like Florence and the Machine, were ‘Fallen’ is contemplative and confessional just as what you would expect from Regina Spector. Visit her website and get involved with this very exciting fledgling local artist.

At 14:29 26th Nov 2011, DisneyInn wrote:With a Transatlantic depth to her voice, Katharine Philippa sings what can only be described as soft gospel...She speaks to the audience with a quiet simplicity, never trying to be dramatic, simply doing what she does and approaching it like a musician rather than a performer. Serious girls with pianos will always welcome Tori Amos comparisons and there is a little of that here, combined with Eva Cassidy at her most soulful vocally.
