Belsonic 2011 - Wretch 32
Wednesday 17th August
supporting Example and Dizzee Rascal
Describe in a Tweet: Safe. And not in a good way.
What happened: Wretch 32 seemed vaguely edgy, spiking up the type of poppy hip hop that is all too familiar to the listeners of daytime radio. About to top the charts with 'Don't Go', having them open day two of Belsonic was quite a coup. On paper, an absolute belter of a gig. As it turns out, we're presented with watered down lame-hop you could set your bling-less watch to.
Looks Sharp: 'Traktor', were it all started, is a bouncing, surfy little gem and shines brightly tonight. A track that promised so much.
Needs Fixed Up: What was the point of that slight reworking of '99 Problems'? Hip hop karaoke? And sampling a band like The Script wasn't what the beats n' rhyme forefathers had in mind.
Besonic Rating: 5/10
