Describe in a Tweet: Not Giving A Monkeys #101
What Happened: Of a support bill contesting with not the most open-minded of crowds, Dublin synth loonies Fight Like Apes in particular seem to be greeted with an alien's welcome. Granted the only similarity they might share with tonight's headliners is their resourceful use of four letter words whenever necessary. Always useful whether for 'urging' people forward or humiliating a heckler, we'll admit MayKay's fluency with the colourful language to be impressive if nothing else. But even more impressive is the fighting form we find her in, thrashing and shuffling about the stage to a wonderful mess of profanity and violent keyboard sounds.
After a particularly hilarious exchange with a critical crowd member, they launch into 'Lend Me Your Face', scathing and invigorated, almost deploying it as weaponry. This is all before 'Jake Summers' too, announcing “You'll probably like this one”, before she reverts “You'll probably not, but you know what I mean!” We think we do. Wait, do we?
Different Gear: There's being in the belly of the beast then there's taking a bite of the beast's burger as we see MayKay joining her hecklers down the front and literally sharing a bap that's shoved her way. Fearless hunger, ladies and gentlemen.
Still Speeding: Newer offerings just don't seem to cut as deeply, with 'Flapes' still at their best in the abrupt, cacophonous stabs dotted throughout.
Belsonic Rating: 8
