What Happened: On what must have been the wintriest August night in Belfast for a long time, there was a demand for sunny pop tunes to warm up the early-comers at Belsonic and all the young’uns who came out to see the Cashier boys were given well rewarded. Taking to the stage while the crowd are scattered and thinned out can be testing and unrewarding, but there was a noticeable surge towards the stage once the boys arrived on stage and slung the guitars on.

Onstage the band looked a little jaded; possibly from extensive touring and playing to more and more captive audiences. They were note perfect but lacked a little verve and took until their third song, newest single ‘Lost At Sea’, until they got going. After that it was plain sailing as their lush harmonies and well structured and layered melodies carried them through to the end of a very good set, ending on Goodbye Friend which embodied all that’s good about the band; a skew-whiff guitar riff, unmatched pop sensibilities and a great sense of quirkiness without any annoyingness.

Movin' On Up: An accomplished set from a band who get better and better, and are deserving of the bigger audience to go with tonight’s big stage.

Damaged: They lacked a little bit of verve and dynamism onstage tonight.
