Oxegen update #3 - DAY ONE NAILED!

Post categories:

ATL|21:27 UK time, Friday, 8 July 2011

Some notes:

1. The weather, after threatening to wash us away by teatime, has behaved. A reasonably dry day with occasional showers. We can live with that.

2. People are behaving. We sometimes expect the worse at Oxegen when it gets muddy, but the crowd have been, as far as we can see, loving it. In the best possible way.

3. It's quite quiet. In fact, the quietest we've seen this festival. Only Example has drawn a 'big crowd' and it's been relatively easy to get into the pit at any of the shows ATL has reviewed. Even Tinie Tempah on the second stage got a crowd that barely reached the sound desk. For various reasons, the crowd is expected to near double come tomorrow and be busier still on Sunday.

4. The dance arena - aka The Electric Ballroom - looks incredible, thanks to its new sponsors. Completely dressed to look like a totally different building (at a cost of around £120k if rumours are to be believed), it's gone from a terrifying prospect for some to the most welcoming place on the site. One of the best pieces of branding we've ever seen.

5. The crepes are delicious.
