Oxegen 2011 - The Kanyu Tree
Vodafone Stage, Sunday, 2pm
Describe in a Tweet: Galway boys on the up.
What happened: Day three bands lower down the pecking order have a nightmare on their hands. By this stage heads are frazzled and the will to drag tired bodies from under the tarpaulin is severely tested. West coast newbies (to us anyways) Kanyu Tree definitely suffer initially, but some hardy revellers have made the trip out and are richly rewarded. Four part harmonies are underpinned by a driving mix of soul and indie (yeah, thats right), and songs such as 'Radio' and 'People Street' display a radio-friendly ability that will see the band are very much heading for a larger stage in the future.
Crazy in Love: This is pop music we can dance too without feeling like we've sold our soul to the devil. Hey presto, all that jigging about has got rid of the fuggy head!
Why Don't You Love Me: Given the accessible nature of the music there would be a danger of a large label coming on board and changing the balance of the band's sound too far towards the mainstream pop. We dont want a more dancefloor version of the Feeling thanks.
