Oxegen 2011 - House of Pain
Vodaphone stage, Friday, 5pm
Describe in a Tweet: Passed the time well before Jump Around.
What happened: Proper old-skool hip hop, the likes of which we'd nearly forgotten about. Granted they've a four-piece up there backing them up, but at the end of the day it's really just about two guys running about a stage shouting at people. Don't get us wrong - that's no bad thing. We're even willing to overlook the fact Everlast looks every one of his 41 years.
Crazy In Love: The little breaks are great - we pick up riffs from the likes of Dre and A Tribe Called Quest. Top o' The Morning To Ya works well at Oxegen (as you'd expect) and Back From The Dead reminds us of the decent musicans onstage. But lets face it, they're all hear for one thing. When it comes, people leap to attention, punters run from a 100 yard radius, instantly doubling the crowd, throwing themselves at HoP's mercy and leaping to attention.
Why Don't You Love Me: Almost inevitable when it comes to live hip hop - the sound isn't great and we can barely pick out the flow.
Oxegen rating: 7/10
