SuggestiON-AIR: Best Albums of 2010

Post categories:

ATL|11:05 UK time, Monday, 6 December 2010

So it's that time of the year again! 2011 is closing in fast, so we thought we'd get our best judging hats on and pick our top albums of 2010. Team ATL cheated and chose their top five because it was too hard to pick one. Some fairly predicatbale, some a little more surprising.

Let us know your pick by shouting us here, on the ATL facebook or ATL twitter and we will give y'all a shout on the show tonight...

**************

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Rigsy - ATL Presenter

1. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

It's just a masterpiece from start to finish, an absolute pleasure to listen to. Dark and quirky, joyous and haunting - in fact get out all your fancy words as you'll find a song to apply them to, it's just one of those albums. A joy.

2. Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

3. General Fiasco - Buildings

4. Chemical Brothers - Further

5. Chilli Gonzales - Ivory Tower

Amy McGarrigle - ATL Content Assistant

Caribou - Swim

1) Caribou - Swim

I was pretty disappointed with Dan Snaiths 2007 album, Andorra. It was nice, but a bit too wish washy and I thought my love affair with the Canadian was over. Then I heard the new album Swim, and yes! Same Snaith, new life. Darker, edgier, beats-ier...Just brilliant. Then I listened on headphones on a train one day, and there was a whole other world in the depths to the album. Marvelous. Every listen lets you discover another little gem.

2) Beach House - Teen Dream

3) Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

4) Halves - It Goes, It Goes (Forever and Ever)

5) Everything Everything - Man Alive

Foals - Total Life Forever

Philip Taggart - ATL Content Assistant

1. Foals - Total Life Forever

Foals debut ‘Antidotes’ was hipster’s choice of 2008. It was angular fodder to the Skins generation and it was precisely this that silenced my vocal praise for the album for fear of being branded a scenster. In ‘Total Life Forever’ the band reinvented themselves and showed there was more to them than frentic rhythms and nonsensical barking, in this album they showed themselves as purveyors of dark alternative pop. ‘Total Life Forever’ in my opinion is a modern masterpiece.

2. Arcade Fire – The Suburbs

3. Villagers – Becoming a Jackal

4. Adam Green – Minor Love

5. She and Him – Volume Two

Steven Rainey - ATL Buddy

Gayngs - relayted

1. Gayngs - Relayted

One of the most surprising albums of the year, taking 10CC's I'm Not in Love as the blueprint for all classic pop, Gayngs unleashed an album that was funny, sleek, smart, and sensitive. What they do next is anyone's guess, but this was a stone cold cassic.

2. Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms

3. Deerhunter - Halcyon Days

4. The Continuous Battle of Order - Pattern Seekers.

5. The Hold Steady - Heaven is Forever.
