Silhoutette at Glasgowbury 2010

With the track 'Volume Destroyed', Silouette have ended up one of the most played acts on ATL this past few months. About time then that we chatted to singer Shauna Tohill, who last week put up with our Rigsy long enough to discuss a new wave and ideas for a film....

******************************

Rigsy says: HELLO

Shauna says: heyyyyy!!!

Rigsy says: HELLO

Shauna says: heyyyyy!!!

Rigsy says: ARE YOU READY TO BE INTERVIEWED? QUESTIONS. ANSWERS etc. how are ya?

Shauna says: yep!!! for sure!! i'm great - how are you?!

Rigsy says: sound aye. tired. always tired.

what would you like to talk about?

Shauna says: awww.. hope you get your rest! i can talk about anything...

suppose we could chat about the oh yeah tour?

Rigsy says: ha ha, okay

Rigsy says: whats the logistics of it, do you all travel together?

Shauna says: Gonna get the big OH YEAH tour bus with the other bands and the 8 competition winners!! actually really excited by it! I usually drive to every gig ... so it gives us all an excuse to relax and have few drinks too

Rigsy says: see all the bands playing. and on the CD

Shauna says: yeah!!!

Rigsy says: do you feel part of that sorta new wave of new bands? cause even though i guess yr a new band, you've been knockin about in other bands for a while! is it nice to be part of a new wave?

Shauna says: hmmm.. I suppose it does feel like that!

its good for the extra publicity along with the fact that there are so many great new bands coming up!

Rigsy says: whats the pros and cons of playing in northern ireland but outside of belfast ?

Shauna says: pros: its good to play in your home country because I think it helps you to develop your act. It sometimes helps when your friends and family come and support you and give you constructive feedback. Another thing is that in NI, people are generally really lovely, friendly, honest and make you feel welcome - so you often feel comfortable when playing here!

Shauna says: cons: I suppose it is important to look outward from your own country when your act is ready to do so. It will be a challenge but really helps you to develop thicker skin. If you only play in NI - I suppose you can get stuck in a rut and you wont be able to push yourself to that challenge of what other places will bring?

Rigsy says: but gigs outside of belfast, like more regional, are they sometimes tough?

Shauna says: yeah, they can be, but its good because you can experiment a little more with your act and be yourself more!

because you dont know anyone... unless there is someone 'important' there and then you can feel nervous/intimidated

Rigsy says: ha ha, who would qualify as important? the mayor?

Shauna says: yeah, ha ha!

awk... i dunno... if you were aware that the top manager in the world was standing expecting you to be the best thing in the world...not that that has EVER happened to me!!

ha ha!

Rigsy says: there is quite a lot of expectation though

Shauna says: but it was just a general thing

Rigsy says: volume destroyed was just one of those songs. do you feel a little pressure off the back of things that have been said about silhouette?

Shauna says: Not in a negative way but yeah, its good pressure

i feel like its given me a bit of a kick

Rigsy says: when you're doing tours like the oh yeah thing. and being on a CD where the quality is just...mental high

Shauna says: and its making me think about all of my choices and aims and timeframes etc.....

Rigsy says: i always think it's kinda a good time to be in a band in NI but also there's a downside. very hard to shine through with so much happening thats so good

Shauna says: Very true! But if you're honest and really mean what you say with your music, it does shine! in its own way!

i suppose!?

Rigsy says: you don;t sound convinced, ha ha . so what's your plan for the next wee while - just how serious are you taking this, are you going to get stuck in and do the whole album & touring thing?

Shauna says: for sure! I feel that singing and writing is what I was made for!!!!

Im planning for another single release in February, potentially a tour support and if not, Ill book my own tour, keep writing and recording!

Rigsy says: great news shauna

Shauna says: I'll release an EP and then the Album...

and then get a track on the next Twilight movie!!! ha ha!

Rigsy says: oh noes, you into all that stuff and it was all going so well....

Shauna says: well..... i like fiction stuff ha ha!

I think the songs would suit!

Rigsy says: well, to end then

Shauna says: ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!

Rigsy says: cause you mentioned those daft films if silhouette was a film, what film would it be?

Shauna says: you're a rascal!

hmmm.... it would be a film of enchantment and purity, strange but fun and full of love? Im really not sure what movie it would be

Rigsy says: so...twilight then....but without the vampires juno maybe?

Shauna says: Maybe Nightmare before Christmas meets The Princess of....

crap.... it's a movie based on the book of Ester!

Rigsy says: ha ha

Shauna says: ***not the princess of crap.. i mean.. the princess of BLANK because i CANT remember the name!!****

Rigsy says: ha ha

Shauna says: ha h!

Rigsy says: get back to me ;-)

good luck with the tour

Shauna says: thanks!!!

Rigsy says: and hurry up with more stuff, we can't get enough of it

Shauna says: fantastic!!! thanks rigsy!
