kasper_rosa.jpgGreat new acts are finding their way onto the ATL playlist at an almost alarming rate these days. The latest demanding airplay are Kasper Rosa, an instrumental four-piece with an impressive work ethic. Ryan from the band spoke to our Rigsy during half time in Hull v Liverpool...

*************************

7.58pm Rigsy says: well sir, what you up to, what can you see around you right.... NOW

7.58pm Ryan says: Getting stuck in to six cans of [a popular supermarkets] finest premium lager and half way through a game against Hull (as Liverpool) in Fifa. And listening to Cast of Cheers.

7.58pm Rigsy says: speaking of cast of cheers

7.59pm Ryan says: They're amazing

7.59pm Rigsy says: there's loads of bands of that nature about at the moment, is that a good thing or a bad thing for kasper rosa?

7.59pm Ryan says: It's frustrating that all instrumental acts are referred to together

7.59pm Rigsy says: frustrating but inevitable! although you seem to have plenty of variation going on, for sure

8.00pm Ryan says: We've got this absolutely devastating 'Meshuggah' type track in drop B, and another new one that sounds a bit like an 'Incubus' track haha!

8:00pm Rigsy says: that sounds class !

8:00pm Ryan says: To be completely honest, I don't even get annoyed anymore. It's brilliant that people are even taking a notice of us.

8:00pm Rigsy says: did you feel that until recently you weren't getting the attention you deserved? it's actually cool that you are breaking through a little at the moment, of all times to do it - when there's so much great stuff about - i,e it's hard to stand out

8:02pm Ryan says: Well I'm glad you mentioned that actually! We actually got a really brilliant reception when we first started, and we've always had a pretty decent following of people in Belfast... but recently there have been a lot of fantastic bands taking to the stage, some of whom we definitely feel are well on their way to outshining all of our hard work. But in all honesty, it really is a lot to do with work. And we have a fairly strong work ethic.

We always said that we'd never stop working, no matter how far we got.

It's a shame to see some bands getting it into their head that once they've reached a certain point, it's completely cool to just sit back and chill out.

8:03pm Rigsy says: does not having a vocalist make you work harder?!?!?!

8:04pm Ryan says: Haha! You know, that might be it?

I think it's the fact that we don't get to 'say' anything.

8:04pm Rigsy says: maybe as a band you aren't having to waste time dealing with a singers ego

8:05pm Ryan says: BAM! I think you cracked it.

8:05pm Rigsy says: i like that song 'am i now going to be more sensitive'

or whatever its called

8:05pm Ryan says: Haha.

8:05pm Rigsy says: can you make more songs like that please?

8:05pm Ryan says: Am I Now Going To Be Less Sensitive That was definitely one of the first tracks that set us in our 'country ways'.

That and 'You Fool, Warren Is Dead!'.

8:06pm Rigsy says: we should say all these tracks are on your myspace what do you think has dictated the moods of these tracks? which are pretty different, like is it difficult to replicate the vibe and mindset of such different songs over the course of a single gig?

8:07pm Ryan says: Hmm.. good question.

8:07pm Rigsy says: thanks

8:07pm Ryan says: When it comes to a gig, we never look at it like that. We like to think of our 'gigs' as 'shows' or 'performances'. It's as much about how we act on stage as it is about the music. For us anyway.

We don't get to tell people anything. So it's up to us to make sure they see it.

8:08pm Rigsy says: i'm going to ask this to everyone from now on i think - in NI at the moment there's just so much great stuff about. from a purely cynical, 'give-us-the-hard-sell' point of view what are kasper rosa doing to stand out?!

8:09pm Ryan says: As much as possible.

8:09pm Rigsy says: explain to someone who's not heard a note of your music (i don't mean me, ha ha)

8:09pm Ryan says: Haha! Good save.

If you've never heard our music, I'd honestly tell you to come in with an open mind.

There was a time when we had particular influences that we didn't wear too proudly on our sleeves. But things have progressed so much, that we've decided to just move along with it.

8:12pm Rigsy says: before you get to go then....whats yr plans. both IMMEDIATE and for the rest of the summer

8:12pm Ryan says: Hmmmm... What are the plans?

Well! We're launching our new EP on Field Records in June. That'll be on the 11th, in the Spring & Airbrake.

8:13pm Rigsy says: tell me about field records

8:13pm Ryan says: Tickets are on sale now from Katys. Plus the two support acts are absolutely killer!

Field Records is an Indie label based in Southampton.

It's ran by Tim Waterfield (an absolute gent of man).

8:14pm Rigsy says: ...who have put out a little lafaro in the past

8:14pm Ryan says: Yes they have! We've also got bands like.. Maybeshewill, You Slut!, Karhide, Alright The Captain & Cats and Cats and Cats!

8:14pm Rigsy says: well thanks for taking time out. and good luck against hull

8:14pm Ryan says: Thanks very much! I'll be sure to beat Hull in the second half of this match.

Was a pleasure talking to you, and take care!

8:15pm Rigsy says: ta :-)
