Favourite Dance Anthems!

Post categories:

ATL|15:57 UK time, Monday, 5 April 2010

Easter Monday has now firmly established itself as Northern Ireland's official day of rave as, for whatever reason, the country's club promoters seem to pull out all the stops to put on mammoth bills on this night of the year. DJ Yoda, Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Dubfire, Alex Metric and Sven Vath (amongst many others) are all set to wreck various venues across the province this evening, so get involved!

So today we're talking rave anthems, or at least electronic tracks guaranteed to get you to the dancefloor. The ATL team picks follow, but feel free to argue, discuss, agree and most importantly, suggest your own entry for the tune guaranteed to get you moving like a buffoon.

Share via twitter, facebook, email or text (81771 once we get on air at 8pm)!

This is a ridiculous question to ask someone like myself and impossible to answer (it changes pretty much every day) but given I've been forced into this, I'll keep things simple and go for a track by the finest electronic act of all time. That'll be The Chemical Brothers then. And more specifically, their spangliest, most euphoric and insanely epic moment to date - 'Star Guitar'. It's illegal not to hug the nearest human during this track's break down, you know.

Amy McGarrigle (ATL Content Assistant)

I tossed a good few massive tracks around (giving me a good excuse to whack them on in the office) but I've decided to go with (the somewhat obvious) Justice Vs Simian Mobile Disco 'We Are Your Friends'. Its that funky bass line! The way it drops out and kicks back in, giving loads of opportunities for explosions on the dance floor and a vocal hook that begs you to shout INTO peoples faces (perhaps to the annoyance of your mate, but c'est la vie).

Christopher Johnson (ATL Trainee)

I'll be the first to admit to be somewhat ignorant to the realms of dance music, but there's something about Daft Punk's scrapbook ethos that I find mightily hard to resist. In 2007, the Parisian duo combined One More Time and Aerodynamic as part of their live show to create a gargantuan mushroom cloud that consumed everything in its path. It blew every synapse in my head and rendered me a limb-swinging maniac.

First heard this at a rave in a stately home somewhere down south in the early 90s and it literally had people swinging from the chandeliers. It's a simple bassline that just builds and builds with layers of 303 acid lines and crescendo rocking snare drums. It also has one of the largest breakdowns ever put to wax. It's one of those records that still works as well now as it did back then.

In my butcher’s shop here in Smolensk, where today assistant Yuri is today make excellent jelly from congealed muttons blood, we are think that there is distinct lack of excellent Russian dance anthems in otherwise excellent line up. Indie band Ural Crime Wave’s great number “Feeling Cold, Cold, Cold” is make any parties go with explosion. Cold War Era band Tzarina is have big hit with “Having a Good Time (Exactly the Same as Everyone Else in Egalitarian State)” and that really rock the khasi. Personal favourite is Band of St Petersburg Emergency Services “Fire Stopper (effective, effective fire stopper)”.

Must urge event organisers be more responsive to Russian musics. Not least as most people at events who is selling booze and programmes be from Eastern Europe.

You can't beat a bit of "Autobahn 66" by Primal Scream.

Pulsing electro meets Sonic Youth guitar attack, whilst Bobby G pretends to go all cosmipolitan.

Failing that, "The Golden Path" by The Chemical Brothers featuring The Flaming Lips, cos it's almost excactly the same.

(Or to go fully old skool, "Voodoo Ray" by A Guy Called Gerald, but this just shows how infrequently I can be found near a dance floor.)
