Alexander Bone was named winner of the first BBC Young Musician Jazz Award staged at the Royal College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. The final will be broadcast on BBC Four on Friday 23 May and is presented by Josie D'Arby and Soweto Kinch as part of a season of jazz programming on the channel.
The five finalists performances with the Gwilym Simcock Trio were judged by Julian Joseph, Django Bates, Jason Yarde and Trish Clowes who praised Alexander's "passion, beautiful sound, good control, ability to guide the band, stage-craft, choice of programme".
