What is... Watership Down?

Matt Seel

Digital Content Producer, About the BBC

Watership Down is a new, two part BBC adaptation of the classic Richard Adams novel.

For those of you not already emotionally scarred by the 1978 version, BBC One and Netflix are bringing you the reimagined tale of adventure, courage and survival, following the band of rabbits on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home.

Who's in Watership Down?

Watership Down cast

James McAvoy. A firm favourite, the Scottish actor has played varying roles over the years, from the heroic Proffessor Xavier in X-Men to the downright evil DS Bruce Robertson. McAvoy is the voice of Hazel, the leader of the rabbits.

John Boyega. Boyega shot to fame as Moses in Attack The Block and became a superstar after playing Finn in the new Star Wars Trilogy. He's the voice of the stubborn, but heroic, Bigwig.

Gemma Arterton. She's a huge star of stage and screen and played the lead, Rita O'Grady, in Made In Dagenham. Arterton is the voice of the strong and active Clover.
