Ten things from this week #6

Another selection of ten items from across the BBC this week including one presenter's difficulty getting into Broadcasting House, a new way to interact with one of our popular programmes and a cracking opportunity to get writing a new soundtrack for Wallace and Gromit.

1. Nick Grimshaw started his new Radio 1 Breakfast Show on on Monday. Some of the press seemed impressed.Grimmy spoke to Newsbeat after the first show.

2. Responding to Director-General George Entwistle's letter to the BBC complaining about the rescheduling of Tom and Jerry, the BBC's Audience Services in Belfast penned a response nearly 40 years later, excusing the delayed reply as being down to "factors beyond our control (your dad)."

3. Antiques Roadshow fans will be able to make their own evaluations of selected objects in the programme when the series returns on Sunday 7 October via Red Button. A new app will be available later in the series offering a multi-player experience.

4. Question Time introduced a new addition to the discussion programme this week - a Twitter panellist, @BBCExtraGuest.

5. Wonders of the Universe presenter Professor Brian Cox was one a handful of recognisable faces making a cameo appearance on the penultimate episode of the present series of Doctor Who. "I am rather pleased to have been on Doctor Who," he tweeted to his followers.

6. Also on Twitter, former Doctor Who website designer Lee Bindingtweeted about new BBC One drama The Paradise "Sarah Lancashire screaming "Haberdashery! HABERDASHERY!" has made this for me."

7. It's been a busy week on the blogs.Our weekly round-up includes a post from our colleagues in Audio & Music on how the Radio 2 playlist is selected. The BBC Internet Blog spotlighted ongoing developments on how Connected TV apps are designed. And on the TV Blog Nigellisima series producer Jennifer Fazey throws light on how the studio version of Nigella Lawson's kitchen was recreated for filming.

The BBC College of Journalism launched this year's journalism trainee scheme, while here on About the BBC we featured the launch of the Wallace & Gromit Soundtrack Competition for primary schools and the PresentAble presenter 'boot-camp' scheme for disabled people. Be sure to take a listen to the audio we captured from the trainer Nina and a few of the participants. 

8. The BBC Academy reported on the Women in Engineering event in the Broadcasting House Radio Theatre earlier this week. Catch-up videos are available on the Academy's YouTube channel. 

9. The Media Centre website released the latest figures for iPlayer performance including the highest-ever proportion (32%) of live TV requests in August London 2012 Olympic Games coverage.

10. ... And earlier this week BBC London presenter Danny Baker experienced some difficulty getting into Broadcasting House. We understand that everything's sorted out now.
