A sizzling summer of sport

Barbara Slater

Director, BBC Sport

Women’s football, tennis, cricket… this summer has already given us so many brilliant sporting moments.

From the game-changing FIFA Women’s World Cup which saw a record-breaking 28.1m people tune into the BBC’s coverage, to a peak of 5.2m watching 15-year-old Coco Gauff come back from a set down to beat Polona Hercog at Wimbledon last Friday evening, there have been lots of talking points.

And this weekend promises to provide so many more as we look ahead to the busiest day of the sporting summer when the climax of three huge international showpiece events take place on Sunday.

At Lord’s, England take on New Zealand in the men’s Cricket World Cup Final, it’s the men’s singles final at Wimbledon, and at Silverstone, it’s the British Grand Prix.

The BBC has coverage of all these events.

Sue Barker introduces our Wimbledon coverage from the All England Club at 12:45 on BBC One, with live radio commentary of the men’s final on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, Test Match Special provides ball-by-ball coverage of England’s bid to win the Cricket World Cup for the first time in what promises to be a sensational day at Lord’s. TMS’s unrivalled commentary can be followed on 5 Live and the BBC Sport website and app. We’ll also be offering video clips of the best of the action as it happens from this historic final through our ever-popular live online service. And if you’re lucky enough to be going to Lord’s on Sunday, you might hear the BBC’s cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew making the announcements at St John’s Wood underground station.

Coverage of the British Grand Prix is also available on BBC Radio. You can hear commentary from 5 Live’s F1 team at Silverstone on a service on DAB radio for one day only called ‘BBC Radio 5 Live Formula 1’. To get our coverage you’ll need to press the ‘autotune’ or ‘autoscan’ button on your DAB radio on Sunday. Once you’ve done that, you'll find BBC Radio 5 Live Formula 1 in the station list between 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra.

There’s also continued coverage of the Tour de France on the BBC Sport website.

Then on Monday on BBC Two, Hazel Irvine kicks off our coverage of the Netball World Cup in Liverpool as England play their first game in stage two of the competition, with one live game every day on BBC Two and every match of the tournament also available on BBC iPlayer. 5 Live will have coverage every day of the Netball World Cup and the BBC Sport website and app will provide full match highlights alongside live text commentary, match reports and analysis on all home nations’ games.

So there’s something for everyone to cheer on, and it’s all the BBC.
