Digital bits and bobs from Walford

Like Danny Cohen, we're proud of EastEnders 30 years on-screen. Hot on the heels of Hannah's post about the origins of and reaction to EastEnders when it started 30 years ago, we bring news of what we think is a bit of a first for our 30 year old soap.

The BBC EastEnders team have planned a social media campaign to match the drama you're expecting to see in Walford this week, including a host of exclusive digital bits and bobs that will bring online fans closer events.

In a first for any UK broadcaster a character from EastEnders - Tamwar Masood - will post tweets, video and pictures captured on set during the broadcast offering you a unique and unprecedented view of the drama. You'll be able to access that material via the EastEnders social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.

There'll be three live webcasts from the EastEnders set in Elstree this week offering you the chance to take part in and watch a live Q&A with EastEnders cast and production teams. A first for BBC TV, these webcasts will begin after the EastEnders credits roll and are designed to play directly in Facebook's newsfeed offering millions of social media fans the chance to connect with their favourite show in a new way.

Finally keep an eye out for #EELive on your screens during every EastEnders live scene this week. Find the hashtag on Twitter and discover all sorts of additional birthday treats accompanying the live action.
