2017 Invictus Games on the BBC

BBC One announced it will have more coverage of the Invictus Games on than ever before, a presenter line-up of all Paralympic and/or Invictus Games Sport experts, and a 60-minute documentary which shines a light on four of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 competitors from the UK Armed Forces Team.

Arts coming up on the BBC

J.K. Rowling, Joe Orton, Joan Plowright, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Eileen Atkins are among the icons of stage and screen to feature in a range of arts programming coming up on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four which takes a closer look at the lives of artists and their inspiration.

Drama

On Monday it was confirmed that Shobna Gulati will join the cast of River City. Meanwhile on Tuesday BBC Three confirmed that brand new short-form drama series Overshadowed, from Kay Mellor’s production company Rollem, will air on the channel this autumn as a box set.

On Wednesday Inside the Writersroom Podcast a series of up-close-and-personal interviews with the UK’s most brilliant writing talent was launched. Then, on Thursday the ensemble cast for Mike Bartlett's (Doctor Foster, King Charles III) new drama series, Press, on BBC One was announced as well as further casting being confirmed for Good Omens, the forthcoming six-part television adaptation for Amazon and BBC Two of the acclaimed novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

On Friday BBC Drama and Directors UK announced that the Continuing Drama New Directors’ Training Scheme is to run again, for the third year.

In addition, the adaptation by Stephen Butchard from Ian McEwan’s novel, The Child In Timemedia pack was published including an interview with Benedict Cumberbatch

Entertainment

Comedian Susan Calman has been confirmed to present the brand new BBC One daytime show Armchair Detectives. Elsewhere, Lorraine Kelly and comedian Rob Beckett are set to preside over engaged couples nuptials for new series Wedding Day Winners, coming to BBC One in Spring 2018.

Comedy

It was confirmed that W1A is set to return to BBC Two for a third and final series of the award-winning comedy written and directed by John Morton. Elsewhere, BBC One has commissioned Tracey Breaks The News for a special three-part run.

Factual

Chef and presenter Tom Kerridge is set to front a brand new BBC Two series to find Britain’s best artisan food producers.

Sport

On Wednesday it was confirmed Sport Relief 2018 will be broadcast live on BBC One from Salford.

Children's

Details were announced on Thursday about Pablo the new CBeebies and RTÉJr series which is the first animated TV series to star an autistic character and the first TV programme with an all-autistic core cast.

Radio

New analysis for BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour reveals that East Dunbartonshire (first) and East Renfrewshire (second) top the list of the best places in Great Britain for women to live, followed by West Oxfordshire in third.

On Friday the Diversity and Inclusion Commissioning Guidelines for Radio were launched.

Regional

BBC Wales and Sport Wales have started the search for best of Welsh sport in 2017 with nominations now open for the Wales Sport Awards 2017.

Blogs

On the blog this week James Purnell put the record straight on recent media stories about BBC Radio; we published the weekly BBC iPlayer Highlights 16-22 September; and highlighted the BBC Films showing in the London Film Festival this year.
