BBC wins at BAFTA Cymru Awards

Last night (Sunday 26 October) the BAFTA Cymru 2014 Awards took place in a starry ceremony at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. BBC programmes took home a host of trophies, in 13 of the 28 categories, with veteran BBC Journalist Jeremy Bowen, who hails from Cardiff, presented the Sian Phillips Award.

Sherlock and Hinterland each took home three gongs with Sherlock being awarded Best Television Drama. Sherlock also claimed Best Production Design (Arwel Wyn Jones) and Best Make Up and Hair (Claire Pritchard-Jones). Welsh noir series Hinterland was awarded in the Best Photography and Lighting (Richard Stoddard), Best Writer (Jeff Murphy) and Best Director Fiction (Marc Evans) categories.

Other BBC winners were BBC Three’s The Call Centre for Best Factual Series; BBC Four’s Timeshift: The Poet Who Loved the War: Ivor Gurney, for Best Photography Factual (Ryan Owen Eddleston); and BBC Cardiff Singer of The World for Sound (Tîm Cynhyrchu/Production Team); while BBC One’s The Indian Doctor took home the prize for Costume Design (Jilly Thornley).

Awards regular Doctor Who took home the Special, Visual Effects and Graphics award (Tim Effeithiau/Effects team) and BBC One’s The Miners' Strike: A Personal Memoir by Kim Howells was selected for the Gwyn Alf Williams Award.
