BBC Arabic Festival 2015

Following the success of the inaugural Aan Korb, BBC Arabic Film and Documentary Festival, in partnership with the British Council, in November last year, BBC Arabic have announced the festival will return and are currently accepting entries for the second incarnation.

Filmmakers can submit their work in one of four categories; short films, short documentaries, feature documentaries and reportage under this year’s theme, ‘Rulers and Ruled: Power in a Changing Arab World’. The deadline for entries is 13 May 2015.

This year’s festival aims to explore the struggles for power and control that continue to shake the Middle East. The competition is open to film and documentary makers, journalists and the general public alike. It will take place in the autumn of 2015, once again in the Radio Theatre at the BBC New Broadcasting House in London.

Last year’s festival brought to London 23 professional and first-time filmmakers from Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Switzerland, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.

This year’s judges include Liliane Landor, Controller, Languages, Global News; Safa AlAhmad, Journalist/Documentary Filmmaker; Turi Munthe, Index, open Democracy, Bureau of Investigative Journalism; Orwa Nyrabia, Filmmaker/Co-founder of DOX BOX; Jason Solomons, Film Critic; Martin Chulov, Journalist, The Guardian; Tina Carr, Director, Rory Peck Trust; and Gisele Khoury, TV Presenter, BBC Arabic.
