Last night (Thursday 19 October 2017) the Audio and Radio Industry Awards 2017 (ARIAS) were held at a ceremony in Leeds. BBC Radio stations, programmes and personalities took home a number of awards.
Notably, BBC Radio 1Xtra was named National Station of the Year - a brilliant achievement as the station celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Best new presenter award went to Radio 5 live's Andrew Flintoff and BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac was named the Best Music Presenter (non-breakfast).
In a message thanking BBC Radio staff for their "dedication and hard work" BBC Director Radio and Music Bob Shennan said: "Out of 41 nominations across 22 awards, I’m delighted to say that we scooped 13 Gold and several Silver and Bronze Awards... Whether or not you struck gold last night, it is clear that we have tremendous strength in depth and breadth across our speech and music radio programming."
In addition to the national wins, the Local Station of the Year prize went to BBC Radio London, bringing the total BBC gold tally to 14.
