Today will be a frenzy of activity but in all my time as a player I never experienced a big shock move on the last day. Crazy as it might sound I've never actually been in a team when someone moved on transfer deadline day or indeed moved myself.
I did go from Birmingham to Blackburn 10 days before the end of the January transfer window though. When you're in that situation you are literally counting the days and I knew that if it didn't happen by the 31st, I was stuck. So every day when you go into training you're hoping and praying it will happen. The nearer the deadline gets, the more nervous you become.

In terms of the atmosphere around the club on transfer deadline day, you all go into training as normal but everyone will be listening to the radio on the way in and you'll have the TVs on in the canteen following what's going on. Depending on how far down the line the transfer is the players will usually train, even if a move is on the cards. Or at least that's how it used to be.
There will always be players who are linked with a move away from the ground and if they get one, you'll often think "How lucky are you?". That applies if he's moving to a bigger club or to a club abroad. Obviously you'd never let on that you were thinking it and if someone's looking to get a move, you give them loads of banter during the window.
If and when your club does bring someone in, there is a nervous air around the training ground, especially if the new signing plays in your position.
I actually don't agree with the transfer window being open during the season. I think it should end before the first game of season. The squad you have on your first game should be the squad until at least January, and possibly even May. The window in January causes so much havoc for teams that I think it needs looking at.
