WeCrashed: What the Must Watch reviewers think
Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.
This week, Scott Bryan and Hayley Campbell review WeCrashed on Apple TV +.
Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway star as the founders of a coworking space that’s value plummeted, less than a year after it became a 47 billion dollar global brand.

Scott says: "This series is far too long"
"This series is really good when it looks at the god-like status some start-up founders are given, the ridiculous hype that can be given to a business predicted to change the way we live our lives and the lack of scrutiny that can be given to their business plans.
"However, this series is far too long. There are too many episodes. If this had been made a decade ago it would have been a film, along the veins of The Social Network.
"It goes down loads of rabbit holes that are interesting, but are not interesting enough to make unmissable television. This is a classic example in the streaming age where a series just doesn’t need to be this long and if it was shorter, would have been more compelling.
"I just don’t know whether we all have the energy to watch such a long drama about WeWork!"

Hayley says: "It relies on you finding Jared Leto interesting, and I do not."
"So, it's another series about a doomed start-up. But instead of last week when we were talking about The Dropout, which was about blood and science and was an interesting story — this one is essentially about a person setting up a temp office. As a plot it's quite dull and it relies on you finding Jared Leto interesting, and I do not. But your mileage may vary.
"The thing that I could not get out of my mind is that he is basically doing a Tommy Wiseau impression. If you're unaware of Wiseau, he's the guy who self-funded a film he wrote, starred in and directed. It's called The Room and it was so terrible it’s gone on to become a cult movie with interactive screenings that Wiseau attends himself. James Franco played him in a movie about making the movie (it's called The Disaster Artist).
"But anyway, in WeCrashed, Jared Leto is basically just Tommy Wiseau. Once you notice this it's incredibly hard to focus on anything other than the fact that now Tommy Wiseau is the creator of WeWork and so the mystery of how this huge company fell is no longer a mystery at all.
"I'm not a fan of it. I think my issue is I wanted to know the gritty embarrassing details of how this company messed up so badly, but this show is largely focused on this love story between two people who I find quite irritating (the Tommy Wiseau/Jared Leto character and Anne Hathaway, who plays his girlfriend). I wanted to like this because the story of WeWork is kind of funny if you followed it in the news. But this missed the mark for me."
