Must Watch reviews The Undeclared War

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan review The Undeclared War.

Channel 4 share the journey of a team of analysts in GCHQ secretly working to ward off a series of cyber-attacks on the UK.

Hayley says "The issue is the real world is in such chaos, bringing down the internet sounds quite tame"

It is not a must-watch for me. I found it incredibly tedious, which is annoying because I thought it would be good. I think partly the issue is the real world is in such chaos, bringing down the internet sounds quite tame.

It's heavily researched which I love, but it contributes to it being very serious, and I feel like I've had more dramatic calls with my internet providers when moving house and trying to get my router to work.

I know many bad things are averted by people quietly tapping away at computers, but it doesn't make an exciting watch.

Scott says "It isn't a must-watch, but I still find it very informative"

It isn't a must-watch, but I still find it very informative. Peter has worked on this for years researching it, and of course GCHQ is quite a cryptic organisation. To provide us a bit of insight he did a lot of research. There have been a lot of reports to find out if his dramas are reliable, and many say they are factually accurate.

Revealing that world, about how our reliance on the internet and if there was an attack on it, it could cause substantial implications. Not just on social media or how we do our work, but ATM's, the National Grid, air traffic controls. There is one line where they say you can't use Zoom or Teams, and I only reacted with relief- it's not all bad!

There are scenes where people are typing on keyboards, but it is a visual representation, so you see someone in a warehouse scrabbling to find information. You see in virtual reality what someone is trying to do through typing.

The Undeclared War is available now on Channel 4.

Must Watch is released as a podcast every Monday evening from BBC Sounds and all other good podcast providers.

This week, the team also review It’s The Control Room on BBC One and Loot on Apple TV+.
