Wellington Paranormal: What the Must Watch reviewers think
Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.
This week Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on New Zealand based comedy Wellington Paranormal. The mockumentary follows a group of investigators as they track down supernatural events.

Hayley says: “It’s completely charming”
“This is a spin-off show from the brilliant 2014 film ‘What We Do in Shadows’, which was a mockumentary horror-comedy thing by Jemaine Clement, from Flight of the Conchords, and Taika Waititi, who has done loads of stuff, but I think ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ was my favourite.
This show gives two minor characters from that movie their own show, so the police officers who got called to the vampire house are now investigating all types of paranormal activity in Wellington. It's not a brand-new show, it came out in New Zealand in 2018, but it's new to us, and they've already made three seasons of it.
“It's completely charming. It doesn't matter how insane the thing is that they're sent out to deal with, they handle it in the same deadpan way they'd accost somebody for littering. The first episode is not the best one, so watch a couple before you decide whether you're in or out. But it's incredibly silly, and I liked it a lot.”

Scott says: “I completely inhaled it”
“It’s absolutely a must watch. I watched the whole series in one sitting. Completely inhaled it. It is especially funny if you grew up in a rural area. It hilariously takes the mick out of those police statements they always say to the media.
“I disagree with Hayley, I couldn't stop laughing during the first episode, because they talk about a demon coming up from hell, but he's coming from hell in the city centre by the bucket fountain.
“PS, It’s absolutely not kid friendly.”
