The Great British Sewing Bee: What the Must Watch reviewers think

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on The Great British Sewing Bee.

Last year Joe Lycett took over from Claudia Winkleman as the host and he’s back for the sixth series.

It starts on BBC One at 21:00 BST on Wednesday 22 April, and will then be available on BBC iPlayer.

Scott says: "You can't help feeling emotionally involved"

“It’s a show that is pretty much perfect for this time. It’s one of those shows that, because of the world we live in right now, we're more likely to watch as a means of escaping the news.

“It’s very good at what it does. I have no interest in fashion - the amount of injuries I got during Year 8 D&T lessons when I had to make my own wallet still causes me to flinch…!

“But you don't need to be involved in the fashion world to fall in love with it, simply because you want to see their creativity fly. There's also the risk of seeing people who think they are good, but having to do it in the studio, they just fall apart a little bit. You can't help but feel a bit emotionally involved.

“Whilst it does not have that same level of appeal as Bake Off - baking is much more tense because most of us can relate from trying and failing from time to time - you do end up appreciating that there is a lot of skill and craft that goes into this.

“It’s a Must Watch - this is a show we need right now.”

Hayley says: "Joe Lycett is a great host - he should be in it more than he is"

“My aversion to reality TV is always going to mean that these kind of shows are not for me. I don’t find any peril in somebody sewing a button on the wrong side of a skirt, but I also don’t get that with cakes collapsing in Bake Off or people getting lost in The Apprentice. So I feel it’s unfair to say it’s not a Must Watch, because the problem here is me.

“Joe Lycett is a great host and I think he should be in it more than he is. It’s charming, so if you like this sort of show, definitely watch it.

"It’s not for me but it’s one of those wholesome shows that is definitely for someone."
