Dublin Murders: What the Must Watch reviewers think

Must Watch reviewers Scott Bryan and Hayley Campbell share their thoughts on Dublin Murders, which started on Monday 14 October at 21:00 BST on BBC One... you can catch up on BBC iPlayer...

In the summer of 2006, detectives Rob Reilly and Cassie Maddox are sent to investigate a child's murder. They find a community caught between the old Ireland and the new.

Scott says: "You see the emotional impact on the detectives"

“If you’re really liking this sort of very sombre, suitable for when it’s raining outside, nights drawing-in drama…this is absolutely your vibe. If you’re not really into detective shows, I’d say this isn’t really for you.

“What I like about this show is that you sometimes see detectives in TV shows going from one macabre situation to another, and it never has an effect on them emotionally… this does show that it does have a quite a big impact on [the detective's] mental health.”

Hayley says: "The main detective is a grizzled hard cop - in his 20s!"

“My main beef with this one was that the main detective is this grizzled, hard cop…in his 20s! Something doesn’t ring true…everybody in this show seems to be in their mid-20s.

“I’ve got really into middle-aged, tired, female detectives recently with Prime Suspect, Happy Valley, and Unforgotten; so I want someone who is genuinely tired and grizzled, I don’t want someone in their mid-20s squinting into cigarette smoke, because it strikes me as a little pose-y and I get distracted from a story that, from the looks of it, could be quite interesting.

"I didn’t love it but the fact that Sarah Phelps wrote it means that I will probably tune in for the second one.”
