On 17th December 606 decamped to the BBC Philharmonic Studios across the plaza in Salford to welcome a live audience to the show for the first time.
Mark Chapman and Jason Roberts hosted affairs, and if you called the show that evening you not only put your point to Mark and Jason but also to 250 audience members.
As part of Celebrate Sport our listeners finally watched and contributed to the behind the scenes madness of a live 606 show.
And contribute they did: From Brian the Everton fan who felt it might be time for David Moyes to go, to Gary and Peter the City and United fans whose son and daughter are getting married in June (title party for who?) to Tom the Grimsby Town fan who wants an investigation into the performance against Salisbury.
More importantly there was a lot of waving of red and yellow cards which we had dished out to the audience to show their agreement or disagreement with points made during the show by callers, other audience members and of course Mark and Jason.
Mark Chapman even donned a jacket for the show so we knew it was an occasion. But the man who claims to love his clothes, Jason Roberts, rocked up in his Blackburn kit. In fairness, he had been playing against WBA that afternoon and rushed onto the stage at 18.05. There's nothing like cutting it fine. His side had lost to a last minute winner so to come on air in front of the audience after that disappointment once again showed how professional he is.
Because we were broadcasting from the Philharmonic which is next door to the Match of the Day studios, we arranged for highlights from all of the afternoon's games to be played out on big screens in the auditorium while we were on air.

While we are prepping shows on Saturday and Sunday afternoons we have the feeds coming into the studios so often have the benefit of replays when we're discussing incidents. As you can imagine there were lots of cheers when Wigan's equaliser was shown, but a lot of disappointed faces (namely one presenter) when we showed WBA's 89th minute winner.
We are already busy planning the next live show - where shall we take it? Let us know where you'd like to see us. We'd also aiming to take 606 on tour in Great Britain during the Euros.
In the next few months we've got a big show planned for Sport Relief in March led by Robbie. Watch this space as we'll be announcing details soon.

Your photo at the top is a bit misleading - I watched it. Did you decide to restrict numbers or did you fail to advertise it coming up so that people didn't apply for tickets? Either way, the very lucky people of Manchester had a chance to see the programme going out, now would you please take this to ALL the regions and stop allowing those two Manchester teams and the BBC move to dominate all your phone ins and programmes like Livesey.

I think Five Live should drop all this live audience stuff ... it degrades from the fact it is a radio station where the listener (remember him or her?) wants informed opinion and debate. So that will rule out Robbie Savage and Colin Murray in my book. But rule in the likes of David Pleat, Jimmy Armfield, and yes, the massively under rated Pat Murphy who knows more about football than Savage ever will.

As for Pat Murphy, yes he knows alot about football and he is one of the most mellifluous reporters on the BBC, let alone sport. But he is very opinionated and that doesn't go down well with me when I can't answer him back. About Aston Villa for example...................
