Any truth in the rumour that next year's coverage of Wimbledon on 5 live is going to be changed again with Adrian Van Klaveren is thinking of replacing John McEnroe on 6 love 6 with Basil Brush? Or perhaps he will diminish the roles of experienced broadcasters or ex-tennis professionals such as Jonathan Overend and Michael Stich and replace them with Dick and Dom.

Got the impression that the (truly professional) Clare Balding might have been a teensy weensy bit fed-up with the (truly awful) Richard Bacon this afternoon - and quite possibly EVERY afternoon that the poor woman has had this imbecile inflicted on her this week at Wimbledon. She is, of course, far too well mannered and professional to let it show too much but naunces could be detected. Helloooo A V-K! We know you think Bacon is 'cutting edge' etc but surely even YOU can see that the audience that listens for the Wimbledon coverage aren't the same as the late night listeners that are Bacon's natural audience. What a mistake putting him at Wimbledon.

The tragedy of Bacon's presence at Wimbledon is he simply isn't needed, clearly knows absolutely nothing about tennis (or lots of things for that matter) so resorts to the inevitable text or twitter. Yesterday's 'topic' was tell us anything you know about someone you know who is Scottish? Good grief. Does he not have a producer who cautions him on such crass idiocy?



His positioning in the afternoon slot is becoming more and more a terrible mistake. Can the controller not hear this or is he blind to comment and constructive criticism? Actually, I think we know the answer.

I think if Mr Controller ever read the blog he would interject here now with words like, "accessible", "entertainment" and "big personality".

"Best Wimbledon ever". Is that because you were there, Richard?

My son mentioned to me earlier today that possibly the worst radio broadcasting he'd heard was Richard Bacon a couple of days ago at Wimbledon parading Alexander Armstrong amongst the spectators asking them "do you know who this man is"? I, luckily, missed this gem but my son said it was appalling. People apparently replied in the negative so Bacon carried on around asking the same question. How crass, how puerile, how stupid. My son is 23 btw so falls into the age category that A V-K wants. Unfortunately for A V-K though, he thinks certain aspects of 5 Live's output (Bacon in general and Bacon at Wimbledon in particular) is dross.



Also - why does Bacon have to read every text, twitter or email out with the preface 'Richard'? We know it's addressed to you; just read out the banal content.

I think Richard Bacon's great. I mean, who on earth wants to hear actual commentary on a semi-final? Much better to hear good old RB reading out texts on the subject of "Tell us a fact about someone you know called Vera" and very occasionally letting Russell Fuller tell us what the score is.

Well I did once know someone called Vera and she had 3 children.........

Frankly, I'm surprised that you didn't know that Vera is not real; and not only that but that she is no more. Agree with your comments about the pesky semi-final commentary getting into the way of Richard reading out even more texts...

Truth is no-one can do Wimbledon like John Inverdale and basically if I hear one more faux celeb saying they have never been to Wimbledon before (but are there now because I have paid for their ticket via the licence fee), I may scream.

I've heard a rumour that Richard Bacon is replacing Jonathan Agnew, Henry, and CMJ on Test Match Special.

What a relief......maybe the folks who listen to TMS will have more clout than the poor sods who have to endure his nonsense on Radio 5 and will have him banished for ever.

The prospect of Mr Bacon asking TMS listeners to text in regarding whether or not they have ever seen an Australian cricketer licking an ice lolly is almost worth waiting for!

Bacon, obviously, can't help it. But anyone who works on his programme should be ashamed and embarrassed - if it were'nt for the fat salaries

And the good news is that Richard Bacon is getting rewarded with a new Sunday morning show. So its official 5 live is now the Bacon and Murray station.

I see Foggity will be making use of her BBC freebie ticket later today. If she had any morals she'd go out onto Henman Hill and give it to a true tennis fan.

Was about to say the same thing. The other day when I heard Shelagh saying she was going to Wimbledon today, I thought perhaps she had decided to go and queue for a ticket just like the rest of the tennis loving world, but no, she has the BBC freebie of the day. All she has to do is giggle with the guests and listen to people talking about their favourite commentaries. Pretty cheap hour actually.

I can't understand why I liked the work Nicky Campbell did in South Africa, but don't like the stuff Richard Bacon is doing at Wimbledon. Essentially they are the same, talking to the crowd, discussing the matches etc. I think it may be because of the time when the programmes are. When Nicky was on, there was no action happening, but when Richard is on it is just getting in the way of the sport taking place.

Another sporting event ruined.Last year 5 live was superb at Wimbledon with Simon and Clare and it was more enjoyable to listen to it than to watch it on TV.

Thank goodness for BBC TV this year though because I can't stomach Richard Bacon.

Why is this vacuous,self-important,unfunny and talentless man being allowed such prominence on national radio.It's a total disgrace.

Spot on robbo06 - am about to get into my car but will tune into another station - as simply cannot bear listening to Bacon whitter on any more. Wimbledon's radio coverage TOTALLY ruined - what a crying shame.

Er, unless someone does okay for us in the tennis...then you'll have to get hold of a digital radio to listen to the most eagerly awaited match for 26 years - Brazil vs Holland.

Too much gossip by far today - who cares if Elizabeth Hurley has never been to some European Open tennis or not?



But what I am shocked about is Clare Balding and some fellow journalists talking about the fact none of them knew precisely where Uruguay is - how extraordinary that they could even admit that on air. Truly shallow, all of it, and an insult to the commentary team who tried their best against trivia and gossip odds outweighing them.

Carrie, most of the 5Live team don't seem to know the South West and North East of England even exists so not knowing where Uruguay is a comparatively minor crime.

Didn't Victoria Derbyshire think Monaco was an island?
