Ellipses
Narrator: Brain, this is an ellipsis!
Brain: BRAAAAAAIN!
Narrator: It can be used in a number of ways.
To show a word, or words, have been removed from a quote.
Brain likes cake, which he never shares, he has one in the cupboard.
If the middle section isn’t needed, it can be replaced with an ellipsis.
The quote still makes sense, but is shorter and easier to read.
Brain likes cake… he has one in the cupboard.
Brain: Brain?
Narrator: An ellipsis can also be used to create suspense.
For example - Brain opened the cupboard to find that his cake was…gone!
Brain: BRAIN!
Narrator: An ellipsis can also be used to show a trailing off of thought.
For example, I err… I don’t know where your cake went…
