There is a river in Germany called die Oder. It rises in the Czech Republic and flows in to the Baltic Sea near the Polish city of Sczczecin (Stettin in German). It forms part of the eastern boundary between Germany and Poland.
One of the cities that lies on the banks of the Oder is Frankfurt (Oder), also known as Frankfurt an der Oder. Despite playing an important role as far as relations with eastern Europe are concerned, the city's population has continued to fall since the end of communist rule in East Germany.
Frankfurt am Main is the more well-known city of Frankfurt. As its full name suggests, it is situated on a different river – der Main, which in the western part of Germany.
