A noun is a naming word - a word for a person or a thing. For example, Amélie, a book, school, food.
In English, nouns are the words you can put the (definite articles – the book, the shoe, the table) or a (indefinite – a book, a shoe, a table) in front of.
In French, all nouns are classified as either masculine or feminine. Some are easy to determine, egune fille – a girl, la mère – a mother, un homme – a man,le père – the father.
As in English, proper nouns and names start with a capital letter, eg Jean, Yves, l’Hôtel Da Vinci.
