Paper 1 - Translation
French to English
(approx. 10 marks)
This will be a set passage for translation from French to English, testing 'sense and tense' and French expression.
- Stay as close to the style of language used in the Reading text as you can.
- Make sure your translation still makes sense in English.
- Make sure it reflects the correct tense/s (language time zones) used in the section underlined.
The translation usually amounts to five or six lines within the Reading passage. You should take care when using your French dictionary to choose the correct meaning. For example Afrique du Sud means South Africa and not the South of Africa.
The more you practise this type of exercise the better you will get! The reading text and translation will reflect at least one of the four contexts.
