Role-play – At the cinema
Practise taking part in a conversation at the cinema. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.
Scenario
You need to collect two cinema tickets you have booked online. Respond to the questions the cinema employee asks and address them as vous. They will start the conversation.
The bullet points give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare what you might say. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked. Where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Cinema employee - Bonjour. Je peux vous aider ?
Customer - Bonjour madame. J’ai déjà acheté deux billets en ligne.
Cinema employee - Oui, la machine est là-bas.
Customer - La machine ne marche pas. Elle est en panne.
Cinema employee - Je suis désolée.
Customer - Il y a une autre machine ?
Cinema employee - Non, mais je peux vous donner vos billets. Le film est à quelle heure ?
Customer - À huit heures.
Cinema employee - Et quel est votre nom et votre date de naissance, s’il vous plaît ?
Customer - Je m’appelle Carl Smith et ma date de naissance est le douze septembre deux mille trois.
Cinema employee - D’accord. Merci et voilà vos billets.
Translation:
Cinema employee - Hello. Can I help you?
Customer - Hello, I’ve already bought two tickets online.
Cinema employee - Yes, the machine is over there.
Customer - The machine isn’t working. It’s out of order.
Cinema employee - I’m sorry.
Customer - Is there another machine?
Cinema employee - No, but I can give you the tickets. What time is the film?
Customer - At 20:00.
Cinema employee - And what is your name and date of birth, please?
Customer - My name is Carl Smith and my date of birth is 12th September 2003.
Cinema employee - OK. Thanks and here you are.
