Practise taking part in a job interview. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.

Scenario

You are looking for a part-time job in a supermarket in France. Your teacher works in the supermarket and will speak first.

The bullet points give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked and where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Interviewer: Bonjour, pourquoi voulez-vous travailler ici ?

Applicant: Je voudrais travailler ici parce que je veux apprendre à connaitre le monde du travail et je m’intéresse au commerce.

Interviewer: Quels sont vos qualités et vos défauts ?

Applicant: Je suis très travailleur mais je suis aussi un peu timide.

Interviewer: D’accord. Et vous avez déjà de l’expérience ?

Applicant: Oui, j’ai travaillé dans un magasin de vêtements pendant les grandes vacances.

Interviewer: Et quels sont vos projets d’avenir ?

Applicant: Je voudrais étudier la gestion à l’université et puis je voudrais devenir gérant d’un magasin.

Interviewer: C’est bien ça.

Applicant: Quelles sont les heures d’ouverture du magasin, s’il vous plait ?

Interviewer: De neuf heures à vingt heures.

Translation:

Interviewer: Hello, why do you want to work here?

Applicant: I would like to work here because I want to have experience in the world of work and I’m interested in business.

Interviewer: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Applicant: I am very hard-working but I am also a bit shy.

Interviewer: OK. And have you already got some experience?

Applicant: Yes, I worked in a clothes shop during the summer holidays.

Interviewer: What are your future plans?

Applicant: I would like to study management at university and then I would like to be the manager of a shop.

Interviewer: That’s good.

Applicant: When is the shop open, please?

Interviewer: From 9:00 to 20:00.
