Desktop publishing
A An application used to write, edit and format text. is not always the best package to use to produce a document. If more control over the layout of a page is required or the document is to include a lot of A visual image displayed on screen or stored as data., then a desktop publishing package such as Microsoft Publisher would be more suitable. Desktop publishers are often used to produce newspapers, magazines, newsletters and leaflets.
Frames
The main advantage of desktop publishing is that it is frame based. Text and picture frames can be laid out on the page, and moved and resized as necessary.
Text and graphics can be inserted, eg from Pre-made images., and imported from other sources too. For example, text written by a professional writer or photos and illustrations provided by a professional designer.
The view of the page is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get).
