Real-life example
The Educational Maintenance Allowance is a financial scheme that involves young people between the ages of 16 and 19 receiving an allowance of money on a fortnightly basis in order to support them in their education. The scheme has been withdrawn in England, although it is currently still available in Wales (in 2017).
The current voting age in Wales is 18. If the voting age is reduced in Wales to 16, it may mean that young people are better able to influence political decisions that involve issues such as whether to withdraw schemes such as the Educational Maintenance Allowance.
