School and school subjects
State education in Spain is free and compulsory between the ages of 6 and 16. Primary education (for pupils aged between 6 and 12) is called la educación primaria. This is followed by la educación secundaria obligatoria from age 12 to 16. Some students stay on at school after this to study further. The post-16 course most like A Levels in the United Kingdom is called el bachillerato.

- Maths - P+N - The student says he thinks maths is very important (las matemáticas son muy importantes) but finds it very difficult (es una asignatura que encuentro muy difícil).
- Drama - P+N - The student says it's a fantastic subject (es una asignatura fenomenal) but doesn't think it's very useful (sin embargo, no creo que sea muy útil).
- Economics - N -The student says it's boring (es una asignatura muy aburrida), that the teacher is unpleasant (el profe es bastante desagradable) and that they don't think it's worth studying (creo que no vale la pena estudiarla).
- Chemistry - P - The student says it's their favourite subject (Es mi asignatura favorita) and that it's very interesting and useful. (Es muy interesante y creo que también es muy útil.)
- Business Studies - P+N - The student says it's a very important subject that will be useful when they leave school. (es una asignatura muy importante que va a ser muy útil cuando salga del colegio.) However, they don't find it very entertaining (no lo encuentro muy entretenido).
- English - P - The student says that it's their favourite subject (el inglés es mi asignatura favorita), that they find it very easy (yo lo encuentro muy fácil) and that it's a very important subject (es una asignatura importante).
- Art - N - The student says it doesn't interest them at all and that they find it very boring. (no me interesa nada - lo encuentro muy aburrido.)
