Practise taking part in a conversation about your local area. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.
Scenario
You are chatting to a new friend while on holiday in France and are talking about your home towns. Respond to the questions your friend asks and address them as tu. They will start the conversation.
The bullet points give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked and where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Friend - Parle-moi de ta ville. C’est comment ?
Student - J’habite dans une grande ville, pas loin de Londres. Il y a beaucoup de magasins et ma ville est très industrielle.
Friend - Tu aimes ta ville ?
Student - Oui, j’aime bien ma ville parce qu’elle est moderne et il y a beaucoup de choses à faire.
Teacher: Qu’est-ce que tu as fait récemment dans ta ville ?
Student - Je suis allée au cinéma avec mes copains et puis nous avons mangé dans un restaurant chinois. C’était génial.
Friend - Tu préfères habiter en ville ou à la campagne ?
Student - En ville, parce que je trouve ça plus amusant.
Friend - Ah, bon.
Student - Est-ce que tu aimes ta ville ?
Friend - Oui, j’aime beaucoup ma ville.
Translation:
Friend - Tell me about your town. What’s it like?
Student - I live in a big town, not far from London. There are lots of shops in my town and it’s very industrial.
Friend - Do you like your town?
Student - Yes, I like my town because it is modern and there are lots of things to do.
Friend - What did you do recently in your town?
Student - I went to the cinema with my friends and then we ate in a Chinese restaurant. It was great.
Friend - Do you prefer living in a town or in the countryside?
Student - In a town, because I find it more fun.
Friend - Ah, OK.
Student - Do you like your town?
Friend - Yes, I like my town a lot.
