Sport and physical activities require different sets of skills. Skills have many characteristics and can change depending on the environment, complexity and pace of the skill which is carried out.

Skills are not easily identified and are therefore placed along continua.

A continuum is a range or sliding scale between two extreme points. Each point on a continuum is slightly greater or lesser than its neighbours. You can move up or down a continuum.

For example, in physical education, pupils take part in a games continuum based on their age:
